2026 Education Budget: Prabowo Allocates Rp 757.8 Trillion, Historic Surge

Prabowo Subianto, President of Indonesia, emphasized his administration’s unwavering dedication to educating the nation’s youth during his State Budget 2026 Financial Note address at the House of Representatives’ plenary session in Jakarta. In this address, Prabowo revealed that the proposed 2026 state budget, the largest in Indonesia’s history at Rp 757.8 trillion, will be allocated to education. He emphasized the crucial role of education in producing globally competitive human resources and eradicating poverty, aligning with the constitutional mandate of allocating 20% of the state budget to education. The President highlighted the importance of effectively utilizing education funds by focusing on improving teacher welfare and quality, enhancing vocational training, and adjusting curricula to meet labor market demands. The allocation breakdown includes funding for programs like Program Indonesia Pintar and Kartu Indonesia Pintar scholarships, as well as investments in school and campus facilities. Prabowo also committed to strengthening schools like Sekolah Rakyat and Sekolah Unggul Garuda to provide quality education to underprivileged children. The government aims to expand educational opportunities by encouraging the LPDP to offer scholarships for Indonesian students to study at top universities worldwide. As part of the mission to cultivate an intelligent, innovative, and competitive global generation, the LPDP is expected to award scholarships to 4,000 students in 2026. Prabowo emphasized the importance of advancing Indonesia’s proficiency in STEM fields as a key priority for the nation’s development.
