MBG and Kopdes Merah Putih: Express Lanes to End Poverty

President Prabowo Subianto’s initiatives, including Free Nutritious Meals (Makan Bergizi Gratis/MBG), People’s School (Sekolah Rakyat), and the Merah Putih Village/Urban Cooperatives (Koperasi Desa/Kelurahan Merah Putih/Kopdes), are viewed as fast tracks to eliminating poverty. These programs have the potential to create numerous job opportunities and boost economic independence. Head of the Poverty Eradication Acceleration Agency (BP Taskin), Budiman Sudjatmiko, emphasized that the goal is not simply reducing poverty through social assistance. The President aims to empower people to be economically self-reliant.

Budiman used a football analogy to illustrate the government’s strategy, portraying the poor as players. The government’s role is to ensure these players are well-equipped, well-nourished, and have economic opportunities to move towards the goal of eradicating poverty. The boarding-based Sekolah Rakyat targets breaking the poverty cycle, while MBG and Kopdes Merah Putih benefit entire communities economically.

Deputy Head of BP Taskin, Nanik S. Deyang, highlighted how these programs provide tangible hope for poor households to achieve independence. For example, MBG’s large-scale operations create opportunities for local producers, such as increasing employment in small businesses like tofu-and-tempeh factories. The Kopdes Merah Putih removes costly middlemen from supply chains, allowing farmers to access essential resources at lower prices and providing affordable credit options to communities in need.

Overall, these initiatives are designed to not only tackle poverty but also to empower individuals and communities towards economic self-sufficiency. By providing job opportunities, breaking the poverty cycle, and streamlining access to essential resources, President Prabowo’s flagship programs are paving the way for a more economically independent society.
