The Free Health Check (CKG) program, according to the Senior Expert at the Presidential Communication Office (PCO), Hariqo Wibawa Satria, is a crucial first step towards a healthier nation. He emphasized that CKG is where awareness begins, motivating individuals to prioritize their health throughout their lives. Hariqo expressed optimism that each Independence Day would not only mark another year of freedom for Indonesia but also witness more Indonesians being liberated from diseases.
Under President Prabowo’s administration, comprehensive programs like CKG, the “Stop TB” campaign, revitalization of regional public hospitals, and special allowances for medical specialists in remote areas have been implemented. Despite celebrating Indonesia’s 80th year of independence, the country still grapples with the economic and social burdens of diseases. Illnesses continue to hinder productivity and GDP growth despite the current life expectancy of 73-74 years.
Research indicates that illness-related productivity losses amounted to 6.5% of GDP in 2015, a figure projected to rise to 7.2% by 2030. The economic impact of smoking, obesity, and tropical diseases further highlights the need for substantial health investments as strategic economic assets. Children in Indonesia are particularly vulnerable to health issues like diabetes, obesity, and dental problems, often exacerbated by inadequate information and health education.
Hariqo stressed the importance of CKG not only as a preventive measure but also as a crucial source of health education. The ultimate goal is for every Independence Day to signify progress towards a healthier population capable of actively contributing to national development and economic prosperity. Improved public health can drastically enhance the productivity of the workforce and potentially boost GDP by 1-2% annually. This reinforces the notion that a healthy population is vital for driving life expectancy, human resource productivity, and overall economic growth.
