Empowering True Independence: Merah Putih Village Coops & Economic Equity

Presiden Prabowo Subianto’s Asta Cita vision includes the establishment of Kopdes Merah Putih, or the Merah Putih Village Cooperatives, to promote economic self-reliance and equal development. Fithra Faisal, a Senior Expert at the Presidential Communication Office in Jakarta, emphasized that the President’s programs are aligned with this vision, focusing on building from the grassroots to achieve economic equity and poverty eradication. During the launch of over 80,000 Kopdes Merah Putih cooperatives in Central Java, President Prabowo highlighted the importance of true independence reflecting in the well-being of the people, not just national symbols. These cooperatives are seen as catalysts for inclusive economic growth, following the philosophy of development as freedom proposed by Amartya Sen, to uplift communities and enhance their capabilities. By providing storage facilities, logistics support, and reducing reliance on middlemen, Kopdes Merah Putih aims to increase farmers’ and fishers’ incomes, boost rural economies, and create job opportunities to prevent youth migration to urban areas. Fithra emphasized that these cooperatives enable communities to actively participate in the development process, making it inclusive and empowering for all.
