The long-standing diplomatic relations between Indonesia and France, which were established in 1947, were once again highlighted during the grand state welcome extended to French President Emmanuel Macron in Jakarta. The ceremonial event, held at the Merdeka Palace, was attended by around 3,000 students from elementary to high school levels, showcasing a display of friendship and respect between the two countries. The motorcade carrying President Macron and First Lady Brigitte Macron passed through the area surrounding the National Monument (Monas) amidst tight security, adding to the official atmosphere of the occasion.
Upon his arrival at the Merdeka Palace, President Macron was warmly greeted by President Prabowo Subianto in an official welcome ceremony. The two leaders walked together to the ceremonial grounds, accompanied by the playing of the national anthems of both countries and a 21-gun salute as a mark of respect. The inspection of the honor guard under the clear blue sky of Jakarta saw President Macron acknowledging the enthusiastic students waving flags in the palace courtyard. The ceremony was attended by ministers from the Red and White Cabinet, as well as Prabowo’s son, Ragowo Hediprasetyo.
President Macron’s visit to Indonesia also included trips to the Military Academy in Magelang and the UNESCO World Heritage site, Borobudur Temple, highlighting the shared cultural and educational values between the two nations. The official welcome ceremony was followed by a closed-door bilateral meeting between the two heads of state where they discussed various strategic partnerships, signifying a deepening of ties between Indonesia and France.
