Ministers Meeting on Reemploying Laid-off Sritex Workers: A Critical Discussion

A meeting was held at the Merdeka Palace in Jakarta, bringing together several ministers from the Red and White Cabinet to address the situation faced by PT Sritex employees who had been laid off. The main focus of the meeting was on finding solutions for these workers, following a directive from Prabowo. Among the attendees were Minister of Manpower Yassierli, Minister of State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi, and PT Sritex Curator Nurma Sadikin.

During the meeting, Prasetyo emphasized the president’s concern for the workers and stressed the urgency of resolving the issues stemming from PT Sritex’s bankruptcy declaration in October 2024. The goal is to rehire approximately 8,000 employees within the textile sector with a new working scheme. Minister Yassierli praised the efforts of the curator in potentially rehiring former Sritex employees within the next two weeks.

Prabowo’s commitment to providing support and guidance is expected to bring relief to the affected PT Sritex employees. The Ministry of Manpower is actively working to safeguard the rights of PT Sritex Group workers, ensuring they receive layoff compensation and other normative rights. The PT Sritex Curator Team is in the process of selecting investors to manage Sritex’s assets under a new scheme, ultimately leading to the reemployment of the laid-off workers. This initiative aims to bring stability to the affected employees and offer a viable solution to their current predicament.
